About Shanti Divaharan
As an Associate Professor (teaching-focused) of Educational Technology, my research and teaching forte is in learner-centred pedagogy and augmenting technology mediated learning. In the 20 years in NIE, I have helmed multiple innovative initiatives both at the department as well institute level through the various leadership positions I have assumed. I have a repertoire of experience in developing strategic as well as operational initiatives in impacting change in teaching and learning within NIE as well as in Singapore K-12 schools through driving teaching and learning as well as technology mediated learning initiatives. Of recent, the application of these expertise have extended to providing professional development to faculty from other Institutes of Higher Learning. I have shared my expertise at the international level through workshops conducted for Ministry officials, policy makers, school leaders and faculty from Latin America, South Asia, South East Asia as well as Middle East. As a consultant with projects funded by the Asian Development Bank, I have worked with Ministry of Educations and Institutes of Higher Learning (IHL) to develop their curriculum to factor in technology mediated learning for IHL faculty as well as K-12 students. Through my collaboration with UNESCO, I am sharing my expertise on teacher professional development as well as school leadership to support enhanced teaching and learning to international participants. The findings from funded institute based research as well as school and national level research have shaped my practice and the continual innovation of the professional development provided. I have experience designing online courses, blended learning courses, technology-mediated interactive learning as well as flipped learning. In recent years, I have been consulted as an Educational consultant and pedagogical expert involving VR/AR related projects focused on improving learning experiences for students.

Current• Continued to teach pre-service classes to keep abreast with student learning needs. Senior consultant advisor to the curriculum development team to align with the changing needs of the K-12 teachers in schools. • Designed, developed and implemented Masters level course for school middle managers with a focus on conceptualising technology mediated learning plan for the whole school.• Designed, developed and implemented Leadership in Education course with a focus on whole school approach to technology mediation for school leaders. Invited to conduct the workshop for international participants comprising of Ministry officials, policy makers as well school leaders for the Leadership Programme who are from African, South American as well as South East Asian countries.• At the Doctoral level, continued to helm the core course ‘Qualitative Methodology’ for doctoral students.• At the National level, conducted Cluster and Zone level workshops for in-service teachers. Impact is to more than 30 schools with about 200 staff strength. The focus of all the workshops were on designing technology mediated learning for K-12 students in schools across all subject areas. • At the International level, as consultant to Asian Development Bank (ADB), I have conducted workshops for K-12 teachers from Sri Lanka through their national initiative to embark on technology mediated learning. Currently working with Cambodian Ministry of Education and Institutes of Higher Learning to review their technology mediated learning curriculum and advise them on the content and approach. Through NIE International (consultancy arm of NIE), I have served as a consultant to review, advise and conceptualise technology mediated learning for Institutes of Higher Learning from the Middle East.

Strategic Role • Led a team of faculty and research associates to develop the framework to evaluate and enhance NIE’s teaching and learning landscape. • Set up an Innovations Grant of S$1million to support faculty-initiated innovative pedagogical resource development. • Strategised and implemented support structures to expedite endorsement of ideas. Established a high level Teaching and Learning Committee and a Pedagogical Champions Committee with representatives from all Academic Groups to communicate and spearhead NIE-wide initiatives. • Conceptualized and developed the Technology Roadmap to enhance teaching and learning in NIE. • Chaired the Teaching & Learning Project team, comprising of Senior Heads from the Computer Services Centre and the Computer User Support team to ensure faculty teaching and learning requirements are communicated and the implementation meets the user requirements and timeline. • Governed the implementation of Enterprise-wide technology solutions ranging from Learning Management System, Cloud Productivity tools, interactive video solutions and mobile learning system. • Initiated review process of initiatives periodically to ensure efficiency and effectiveness in meeting faculty teaching needs. • Member of NIE ICT Governance Committee and provided guidance and feedback to uphold and maintain ICT Governance for the institute. • Worked closely with industry partners such as Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore, Microsoft and Google to introduce relevant technology solutions. • Consultant to Educational Technology Division, Ministry of Education Singapore. Operational Role • Managed a diverse team of 20 staff strength in the Centre for Innovations in Learning consisting of Learning Designers, Educational Technologists, Interactive Multi-media developers, Video Producers and Application Developers.
