Shari Caplan is the author of “Advice from a Siren” (Dancing Girl Press). Her work can be found at Zoetic Press, is forthcoming from Blue Lyra Review and Deluge and has earned her a scholarship to The Home School in Hudson, NY as well as a grant for the Vermont Studio Center. Caplan has worked on The VIDA Count, as a reader for Sugar House Review, and as co-editor of Soundings East. She received her MFA in Poetry from Lesley University.

As the Special Events Development Officer, it is my pleasure to manage the production of ARTcetera, a Pop Up Art Fair benefitting AIDS Action Committee. From Art Acquisition to managing relationships with sponsors, patrons, and committees, I am at the helm of ARTcetera's growth. In addition to spearheading one of Boston's best events for art collecting, I am an instrumental part of the planning and execution of all AIDS Action events, from Taste of the South End to the AIDS Walk.

As a professor of composition, literature, and creative writing, I specialized in multi-disciplinary approaches. Lesson plans and course modules were created from scratch using the most up-to-date books and technology. Students learned to embrace their own vocal, mental/emotional, and physical presence in my Public Speaking class, which culminated in storytelling events at the college and at a public reception off-campus. Literature students delved into texts and worked outside the box by responding creatively through art making as well as through traditional essays and discussions. Often, I mentored students through difficult social, political, and economic situations, providing support and guidance through the college's resources.

Jamaica Plain, Ma

As the originator of the Visual Merchandising Coordinator position, I reinvigorated the auction window procedures, from collecting items for the auction to installation and bidding to safely seeing the items to their new homes. Under my guidance, retrieval of auction items increased significantly, resulting in higher revenue for AIDS Action Committee. In addition, the quality of the window displays, the frequency with which auctions were hosted, and the involvement of shoppers in the auctions all increased. I instituted window auctions at two other Boomerangs store locations and created systems to improve communication between stores about auction schedules to ensure that the best items for each window went to the right store. Merchandising of the store floors also underwent positive, lasting changes while I was the Coordinator. Sales benefited from the organization, storytelling, and targeted advertising I led employees in constructing.
