I have been living a double life for over 40 years. The day job (that pays most of the bills!) is as a healthcare/medical librarian and information specialist. The parallel career is as a musicologist and instrumental musician. My work has appeared in print in publications ranging from scholarly music editions, brass band arrangements, midwifery textbooks, The BMJ, The British Journal of Urology and Health Service Journal.I was a founder member of the NLM Classification User Group (UK) and put far more work than I care to remember into the creation of supplementary classification schedules for education and management that were adopted by the erstwhile South East Thames Regional Library & Information Service.I completed 1 year of a MSc in Health Informatics - sadly, I had to give that course up because my job changed to something that was not relevant enough for me to be able to put my best efforts into the coursework. Pity. But I learned enough to know that the NHS was (and still is!) getting nowhere fast because there is no joined-up thinking in ICT. A national EPR or ESR? You gotta be kidding!!! They gotta get it right on paper first.Specialist in the works of Gilbert & Sullivan. Contributor to the Crtical Edition of the Gilbert & Sullivan Operas being published by Broude Brothers Ltd., Williamstown, Massachusetts, USA. Co-discoverer with Bruce I. Miller of "Reflect, my child" (H.M.S. Pinafore) and "De Belville" (Iolanthe).I call my current NHS post the e-numbers job: I am developing and facilitating access to online electronic library resources.I play double bass, bass guitar, rhythm guitar, timpani and percussion (though will avoid mallet percussion like the plague unless you're really that desperate!), baritone & trombone - am available for hire for orchestral, theatre, brass band, big band, folk gigs.Currently playing regularly for Shirley Band, Boobs & Brass and any other bands/orchestras who need a dep.Specialties: Medical / healthcare library & information science; cataloguing; indexing; online searching; proofreading; music editing; music arranging; Gilbert & Sullivan; the early Classical symphony - Johann Stamitz and the Mannheim School; translating from German into English; academic and scientific writing.
