Dr. Sharlene Brown is the Associate Director of Research and Development Program Management at AbbVie supporting Biological Science at Allergan Aesthetics. Dr. Brown's research has focused on characterizing functional molecular relationships in developmental and pathological states of the central nervous system (CNS) and engineering interventional biotechnologies. She completed her Ph.D. in Biological Sciences at the University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC), where she identified a novel druggable peptide relevant to the fetal and adult brain and spinal cord, customized interventional precision messenger RNA (mRNA) tools, and established transgenic and CRISPR/Cas9 models that enable molecular dissection of the 4-dimensional structure-function relationships that regulate the architecture of the CNS. She has nearly 2 decades of experience raising capital for non-profit and private STEM organizations, advising scientific strategy, and developing collaborative partnerships that brighten the medical future. As founder and CEO of Dr. Bird Consulting, LLC, she has spearheaded life science projects in executive management, communications, epidemiology, and data science. Dr. Brown's contributions as the Director of Business Development of the eClinical solutions company Jeeva Informatics Solutions Inc. has grown the start up, expanding its access to investors, customers, and talent. Prior to her current roles, Dr. Brown has served as Vice Chair and Sponsorship Chair of the Capital Region chapter of Women In Bio, a Committee Member of the Maryland Tech Council (MTC) Young Professionals Society (YPS), and an Industry Member of the Career Technical Education (CTE) Biotechnology Program Advisory Committee (PAC) for Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) and Montgomery College (MC). She is academically affiliated as an alumna in the University System of Maryland (USM) at UMBC in Baltimore, MD.
