Director of the Exposure Assessment, Coordination, and Policy Division, Office of Science Coordination and Policy, Office of Chemical Safety and Pollution Prevention

Provide ethics reviews and advice to the Office Director, Office of Science Coordination and Policy who is also the Deputy Ethics Advisor. Work supports decisions to hire Special Government Employees or select Regular (non-EPA) government employees serving as permanent or ad hoc members of the FIFRA Scientific Advisory Panel or TSCA Scientific Advisory Committee on Chemicals.

I support the work of the Endocrine Disruptor Screening Program providing scientific, policy, strategic planning, contract management, and records management expertise. The EDSP is focusing on the development, evaluation, and adoption of novel approach methodologies (NAMs) used to rapidly screen pesticides and other chemicals for effects on the estrogen, androgen, and thyroid hormone pathways in humans and wildlife.

Served as a Designated Federal Official for the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act (FIFRA) Scientific Advisory Panel (SAP). The FIFRA SAP operates in accordance with the Federal Advisory Committee Act (FACA). During my 7-year tenure as a Designated Federal Official, I managed the scientific peer review process for 15 FIFRA SAP meetings covering a range of pesticide-specific science issues. Topics included: Cancellation of Carbofuran under FIFRA Section 6(b), Chlorpyrifos Toxicity, Worker Reentry Exposure, Atrazine Water Monitoring and Aquatic Ecosystems, Field Volatilization of Pesticides; QSAR Modeling; SHEDS Modeling; Pyrethroid Comparative Toxicity Juveniles and Adults, SmartStaxBt Corn Refuge-in-the-Bag, IRM Issues; Chlorpyrifos PBPK/PD Modeling Linked to Exposure Modeling; EDSP chemical prioritization; EDSP Tier 2 ecological test guidelines; and human health and environment assessment of RNAi products. This position required broad scientific knowledge in pesticide risk assessment, knowledge of government ethics laws and regulations, leadership and organizational skills, and good communication skills.

Worked as the subject matter expert in insect resistance management for Bt crops and pesticide resistance management and performed human health risk assessments for transgenic pesticidal crops. I acted as a regulatory action leader coordinating the regulatory activities and regulatory management of biopesticide products and served as the Division's quality assurance and quality control officer including the development, implementation, and revision of the Division's Quality Management Plan.

Coordinated the environmental risk assessments of chemical pesticides.

Assisted in the development and implementation of biotechnology policy under the auspices of the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act and the Toxic Substances Control Act.

As part of an Interagency Professional Agreement between USEPA and CAST, I coordinated the CAST Symposium on Pesticide Resistance Management and its Proceedings as well as provided technical review of other CAST publications.
