I make my bed and walk the family dog every morning. I have a win-win attitude, luminous laugh, adventurous spirit, and a couple of bubble blowers at the ready. I am currently interested in broadening the conversation around facilities and groups that support positive mental health, community, wellness, compassion and environmentally forward-thinking actions. These spaces make my heart full, have my body doing cartwheels and my eyes misty from the impactful stories that come from the work. If the work is in rural areas, my heart and love for the Appalachian mountains is especially in; it is in these old rolling mountains with vistas of sunlit ridges rippling into the distance and dark mystical hollers that my head and feet feel most grounded. I am a respected advisor, mentor and writer; an open minded, empathetic and patient team player; and loyal friend. I work well independently and prefer a level of autonomy. I bring wisdom and contemplation to my decision making and problem solving. I am an organizer and planner with the rare ability to be broad-thinking and strategic one moment and rolling up my sleeves to dive into and successfully navigate the tiniest of details the next moment. I prefer deeper conversations in small gatherings but can hold my own in an auditorium full of folks. Over my career, I have worked as an interior designer for in-house university facilities and architecture firms focused on higher education and corporate interiors. As a consultant, I have led teams pursuing certifications in green building standards and educating others about green building initiatives and practices. The American Society of Interior Designers and the U.S. Green Building Council have both bestowed upon me their highest honor, ASID Fellow and LEED Fellow, respectively (can you see the glow?). I have recently learned that I am addicted to volunteering. In the past I volunteered to expand my skillset and professional network. Now I volunteer to connect with and support my community and further root myself (sometimes literally digging) in the natural world.
