Plumber
CurrentFollowing an interesting venture into carpentry, I decided to diversify my career following my interest in plumbing and drainage. I secured a role with Sydney’s state-owned water and wastewater services provider (and some stormwater!). I play a pivotal part in making sure that Sydney Water customer are getting their water through their taps and getting rid of all wastewater out of homes and offices. Maintaining and servicing over 22,000 km of pipes across Sydney and the greater Sydney area is no small feat. Leveraging my trade experience, I use plant and equipment to maintain and repair assets – in both planned and unplanned situations. Safety is paramount in my job and I always abide by the safety and environmental frameworks that my role is guided by through promoting and modelling safe behaviours. I particularly enjoy the other aspects of my work with pumping stations and chlorinating reservoirs but I most enjoy investigating breakdowns, reading plans and diagrams and working out solutions for service disruptions and repairs. One aspect of my role that has become increasingly important to me is customer relations. I am accountable for talking directly to impacted customers whose services may have been disrupted. I am on hand to answer any questions they may have, take on any and all feedback (sometimes quite adamantly!) and maintain a knowledgeable and reassuring presence on site. Honing my customer service skills has been an added bonus and I pride myself on being a calm and trusted presence for our customers.
