My book is almost ready for publcation, it is called "Pele's Tears" and is a story of life in Puna, in the good ole days.. RAW PUNA... before lawns and so on~~~

The Puna News was the 1st newspaer on BI that actually had a regular artist's column, it is called Gallery Beat, and I created that column. I had a few friends who were Puna Artists, and could never get any "press" so I began the column to help them out. About a year ago, I turned that column over to a friend, who has been keeping it going. You can see our new online version of PN at www.Puna-News.com, I am now also doing the Facebook acount for PN.. there are two of them, one is under the editor's name, Denyse Temple, and the other is under Puna News

In the early 2000’s I created and ran the Lokowai Aquaculture Project for Laulima Puna Community Garden Project of Na Po'e Hoa 'Aina a non-profit organization in Puna. I taught people how to grow fish for food in their backyards, as per Dr. Jim Szyper of UH Hilo Extension Services’ book, Backyard Aquaculture in Hawaii. At that time I gave monthly workshops to teach people the way to provide protein to their diets. Tilapia are perfectly suited for tank culture here in Hawaii, where the water temperature can easily be kept at the 80 degrees necessary for rapid reproduction and growth of the fish
I was the Managing Editor for the newsletter, only.I worked with Judy Stewart to make the newsletter self-sustaining; in other words it paid for itself with advertising from the members of the congregation. I also wrote a column in the rag with bios of the different business owners who paid for an ad.. ~~~smiles, that is what a Managing Editor does~~~
