About Sharon Armstead, Emba, Rrt.

My passion is definitely the spreading of the love of my profession and the care of our patients. As a healthcare professional I have a passion for providing enriching experiences to students to help them build a multicultural perspective on the provision of Respiratory therapy to diverse patients. While working as a Clinical Assistant Professor at Texas State University, I pioneered a groundbreaking study abroad program in my home country of Guyana, South America. In addition to being the first program of its kind for the department, it was also the first study abroad program for the country, made possible through partnership with the Ministry of Health, the COPD/Asthma team form Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation and with a grant from the CHEST Foundation. This project was an invaluable opportunity for my students to interact with people from a different culture, exercise their classroom taught skills in a real-world clinical setting, and develop a sense of compassion and empathy for disadvantaged populations. I feel that I am an effective educator with the ability to engage students and promote a positive learning environment while maintaining strong work ethic and leadership capabilities. Equipped with excellent communication, problem solving, and interpersonal skills. Proficiency with the general respiratory care practices and techniques for increasing the quality of service. Compassionate patient advocate delivers in-depth care and expertise in the clinical setting.
