Reiki is derived from two words, "rei" meaning "gods wisdom" or "higher power" and "ki" (aka "chi") meaning "universal life force energy". Together, these words mean "spiritually guided life force energy". Reiki is an energy work technique of Japanese origin, founded by Dr. Usui Mikao. When provided by a certified Reiki practitioner whom underwent the proper initiation process of attunement by their credible Reiki Master, (a crucial part of training required in order to channel this life force energy) Reiki works by directing this intelligent, spiritually guided energy into the body and energy field (aura) of the recipient. Reiki facilitates the body's natural ability to heal itself and restore balance, health and wellness via the energetic centers within the body otherwise known as "chakras" or "meridians".
