If anyone else here used to shut their family out of the living room to near break the floorboards whilst powering through taped copies of Aerobics Oz Style as a young teen in the 90s, you will understand my persistent commitment to a healthy lifestyle. So yeah, this started early for me. From these formative (and sweaty!) moments this deep desire to live and breathe health and wellness compounded. Some cues that I temporarily ignored include:• Rushing home from my HR jobs to research the nutritional properties of this and that food;• Having friends ask me for health and diet advice because they knew of my obsession;• Spending a large portion of my spare time teaching myself to turn unhealthy meals into nutritious versions through experimental ingredient substitution;• Immersing myself in an intensive (very active!) dance program in Argentina; and• Starting, then stopping (then - spoiler alert - RE-starting) nutrition study.I thought that these were just side interests for downtime away from my ‘real job’ that always felt a little like a jacket that was just a size off. I knew that I loved working in people-focused roles. I had done so for over a decade throughout Australia and internationally, thriving on connecting with people from a broad spectrum of industries, professions, motivations, values and life philosophies. It just took me a while to work out how to put everything together. Eventually I got real with myself, quitting my HR career cold turkey to complete my studies in nutritional medicine, fitness and finally public health promotion.Now I have the absolute luxury of helping people to work towards a healthier version of themselves. I get that people feel too busy, distracted, tired, shameful, unmotivated and disorganised to consistently make healthy choices every day. I understand that knowing WHAT to do is a far cry from knowing HOW to do it. Opportunities to help people shape their life environments and adapt their habitual behaviours to support long-term good health is now what gets me out of bed in the morning.
