As the Director of Fine and Performing Arts at Louisville Collegiate School, I oversee the development, execution, and integration of arts programming for JK through twelfth grade. I work with and support a staff of five full time and three part time teaching artists. I teach classes in Middle and Upper School drama and theatre, vocal music, honors theatre, musical theatre, speech and communication, and various offerings in independent studies. I direct and produce three plays and two musicals each year. Our Fine Arts Department produces and presents over fifty curricular and co-curricular events annually, inclusive of a fine arts showcase.I delight each day in marshaling the arts to teach and develop the whole child. The arts provide a safe place for us all to land, experience, examine, and actualize our feelings and point of view while deepening our capacity to understand and respect the feelings and point of view of others.In addition to my work at Louisville Collegiate School, I am also on faculty at the Kentucky Governors School for the Arts in the Musical Theatre discipline. The energy work, theatre games, performance theory and voice work I teach helps prepare and develop the participants for the college audition process. Using the monologues, solo and ensemble work, I also create a culminating performance piece that showcases each student, highlights their growth, provides a creative way to collaborate with colleagues and challenges the young artist to think in new ways to interpret material.
