Overseeing the portfolio of change executed by Smart DCC in service of the GB smart meter rollout, at a cost of > £450m pa reporting to Service Delivery Director. Shaping and mobilisation execution of a transformation programme to evolve both Portfolio & PMO functions to better meet the needs of the organisation.

Responsible for the commercial strategy and performance of the Energy business serving 6.9m residential customers, with profit in 2020 of £80m. - Set and executed the commercial strategy for the energy business resulting in flat customer numbers in H2 2020 against a backdrop of year on year decline over the previous decade. - Secured investment for and built “British Gas Metering as a Service” with a profit outlook in 2021 of £6m. - Directed Smart Meter Rollout (£300m 2020 spend) and Energy Company Obligation (ECO) Insulation programmes (£120m 2020 spend) through COVID lockdown where installation work was wound down, bringing ECO back to original plan, and recovering c100k lost smart installations. Reduced assets costs by c.£30m by resetting asset contracting strategy across residential and non-residential businesses. Mitigated in-year exposure to contractual commitments of c.£6m.

Executive responsibility for execution of “net zero” responsibilities – Smart Meter rollout and Energy Company Obligations and for partnering to further Centrica’s net zero capabilities and participation. Contracting with VW and Ford for provision of EV charging installations through Centrica’s engineering workforce. Built end to end customer journeys and operational fulfilment capabilities in support and launched Q2 2020. Established negotiations with Thames Water which culminated in deal announced April 2021. Establishing end to end capabilities for the deployment of heat pumps and mobilising proof of concept trials. Executing ECO3 scheme at cost 12% ahead of rest of industry. Reduced 3 year forecast cost of ECO3 by >£50m through lobbying. Mobilised ECO3 programme to meet new requirements and maximising carry over value from ECO2T scheme into ECO3 of c.£45m, closing 2019 with the scheme 33% complete. Driving smart metering programme performance – 1.2m customer installations completed, within £297m cost envelope, absorbing £35m of challenge and contributing £30m to energy P&L through asset contract negotiations. Capex programme delivered at £6.5m.

Leadership of £300m Smart Meter programme, responsible for activities of 2000 engineers upgrading a customer’s meter every 23 seconds and saving customers c.£33 per year in energy costs. Driving the continued rollout of c.1m smart meters to customers, including demand generation, channel strategy, assets and supply chain, field capacity planning and end to end optimisation. Executing a £15m capex programme sourcing, testing and operationally deploying next generation smart meter technology and establishing central service provider ahead of rest of industry. Established capabilities to present “real time” consumption data to customers to engage them in energy usage and costs based on time of day.

Leading British Gas’s relationship with the energy regulator, Ofgem, and the Department for Business, Energy and Regulatory Reform on legislative policy, regulatory licence requirements and compliance. Changing team culture and approach to conduct and compliance, including embedding “Standards of Conduct” principles, consistent with leading financial services sector approach. Concluding Ofgem’s investigation into British Gas’s compliance with mandatory energy efficiency schemes, culminating in a £12m penalty (against a range of up to £56m), plus smaller investigations into the non-domestic business and sales practices. Received the Centrica General Counsel’s award for outstanding achievement across Uk and North America.

Led data migration programme for implementation of SAP CRM across Centrica's retail energy and services business. >20m customer records migrated, maintaining seamless service across 17 operational sites.

Establishing and leading British Gas smart metering programme to scale of 30k installs/month: technology sourcing, commercial contracts, IT infrastructure, customer journeys and operational strategy.
