Sharon has served in leadership roles for over twenty-five years. Prior to joining the University of Denver, Sharon was the Director of the School of Accounting at Florida International University and previously served on the faculties of Florida Atlantic University and the University of Arizona. She began her career with a Big 4 firm. Sharon has served the accounting profession in many ways, most recently as a member of AICPA Council. Dr. Lassar is a past president of the Accounting Programs Leadership Section of the American Accounting Association and Past Chair of the Colorado Society of CPAs. Lassar also served on the Accounting Accreditation Task Force of AACSB International whose work resulted in new standards for accreditation, the hallmark of them being fully engaging practitioners in the accreditation process. Earlier in her career, Sharon was Vice President of the Florida Institute of Certified Public Accountants, where she directed several key initiatives, including transforming financial literacy and women's leadership development initiatives into standing programs. She has also served as Minority Issues Chair of the Taxpayer Advocacy Panel, to which she was appointed by Treasury Secretary O’Neil.

A task force was formed to study and report on the feasibility of the merger. The boards of both organizations approved the merger during the following year. The merger was completed in 2022 with the formation of the New Leadership in Accounting Education Section of the AAA.President Elect - 2016-17 - Led the new chairs workshop at the AAA 2016 annual meeting. Invited PhD program coordinators to join annual APLG/FSA joint conference. Vice President - Program and Organizational Value 2014-16 - Initiated a now annual CPE program for new department chairs, first delivered at the 2016 annual meeting of the American Accounting Association in New York. Added six concurrent sessions to annual APLG/FSA joint seminar in 2015 to better serve MACC program managers. Concurrent sessions are now offered at all annual meetings. Co-chair of 10th & 11th Annual APLG/FSA Joint Seminars: Feb 2014 & Feb 2105 - Planned all aspects of this 2-day meeting of about 250 leaders of accounting programs. The mission of APLG is to develop and support accounting program leaders. We do this by: Providing resources and programs to develop effective accounting program leaders;Promoting and enabling mentoring, networking, and sharing of best practices; andInteracting with external organizations and members on relevant issues. -
