It was a grassroots festival this year owing to reduced public funding but by no means a smaller or less significant event on the arts and culture calendar in the North West. The group funded by Wigan Leisure and Culture Trust became an independent, constituted group in September 2011 when the Trust were no longer able to fund its activities. The Company has successfully continued the legacy of the group and has retained a core group of 25 members/volunteers and achieved some funding to take the organisation forward in performing, creating new pieces of work for theatre, providing community outreach… Show more Founder member of Wigan Pier Community Theatre Group 2002. The Company has successfully continued the legacy of the group and has retained a core group of 25 members/volunteers and achieved some funding to take the organisation forward in performing, creating new pieces of work for theatre, providing community outreach projects such as the Newstart takepART series of performance art workshops and working in the community with intergenerational projects. The group have established their base at Montrose Skills Hub, Wigan (thanks to support from ProCo NW Ltd).I was elected into the Vice Chair position for the first time at the AGM in May 2013, following 2 years as Secretary and relish the new challenge of taking the company into a new era of creativity, collaboration and participation with new committee members on board.So far I have been involved in setting up the committee, volunteer co-ordination, recruitment of new members, fundraising, event and activity co-ordination, brand development, marketing, partnership networking and project development. I also have led sessions and mentored committee members to help them in their new roles.We anticipate a busy year with several projects about to happen and the first endeavours of putting on the pantomime I have created then co-written with 2 friends in the group.
