During COVID-19, I took a brief sabbatical from Philips because there was a critical shortage of experienced ICU-trained nurses across Canada, and I felt that joining Canadian Red Cross (CRC) was the way that I could best support Canadians at this time. I was deployed for emergency assistance to the GTA and remote areas of Nunavut, Northwest Territories and Saskatchewan, for 6+ weeks at a time.I returned to Philips full-time following the critical periods of COVID-19, but continue to take on emergency deployments semi-regularly.My main responsibilities with CRC: - Acted as the Clinical Supervisor within a cross-functional team to establish one of the first COVID-19 testing centres on the Ontario border for Red Cross, at the Queenston-Lewiston land crossing - Planned and implemented pediatric & adult immunization clinics - Organized and coordinated outbreak management of COVID-19 in a public health capacity at clinics and hospitals in remote areas - Contracted as a critical care nurse during surge periods, responsible for care of ventilated patients
