About Sharon Raphael

Sharon brings a diversified background to Arlington Economic Development (AED) and has recently shifted her focus to equity in the arts. Currently, she is managing several grant initiatives that focus on community and professional art organizations as well as individual artists. Sharon serves on the management team for the Cultural Affairs Division of AED and is also a leader on the Racial Equity Action Team. Prior to joining the team at AED, she served as the Director of Special Events at Artisphere which was also a part of Arlington County Government.Sharon also serves as the National President of Alpha Epsilon Phi Sorority (AEPhi). She was elected in 2019 after serving on the Council since 2011. She is passionate about preserving the sorority experience for women on colleges and universities across America and in Canada. AEPhi is a Jewish Sorority and therefore Sharon is dedicated to the Jewish values that she holds dear. She is passionate about fighting antisemitism and giving college women as safe space to be proud of their identity and heritage.Sharon was an Account Executive at Hayes & Associates where she planned events and galas through out Washington, DC including the White House, Pentagon, and the Capitol building. Sharon has worked with numerous Presidents, Members of Congress, Senior Military, and other dignitaries. Before that Sharon was the Director of Special Events and Catering at the City Tavern Club. She was responsible for event planning, budget development, vendor relations, menu design, event design, and contract negotiation for all events. Sharon has planned every type of event imaginable from a surprise wedding to an inaugural ball. During her tenure at the City Tavern Club, Sharon cultivated wonderful relationships with the World Bank, English Speaking Union, Georgetown University, Rosetta Stone, Patton Boggs and countless other organizations.Sharon discovered her love of events while earning her BA in Psychology at The American University here in Washington, DC. She was an active member of her sorority, Alpha Epsilon Phi, and planned many events for the organization. After graduation Sharon moved back to NYC and planned events for a year before returning to DC to earn a certificate in event management from the George Washington University. Most recently, Sharon, completed Cornell University's Diversity and Inclusion Certificate program.
