And this all happened because I was afraid. Because I'm a stutterer.I've had this speech impediment since I was three years old, and it shaped the way I viewed communication. I was intimidated by groups because I didn't ever want to lead a conversation. I was worried about one-on-one's because I knew I would have to talk more. And I avoided situations where I'd have to do something as simple as introduce myself because I wasn't confident enough to say my name. This all fed my fear. I was afraid of exposing this huge vulnerability to others. Terrified of opening my mouth and simple words not coming out. Uncertain how people would react when they realized what was happening. And was in a constant state of panic and anxiety over when I would stutter again.Enter keynote speaking. This was an experiment - a way to stop being so afraid. It turns out, I had a message and a voice that resonated with people. And I quickly learned that my specific circumstance lent itself to audiences learning about empathy. Now, almost a decade later, my mission is simple: Make Empathy Actionable.Through keynotes, workshops and content, I teach audiences the key empathy behaviors necessary to make empathy an actionable part of their daily lives.
