Cannon Hall Museum Cawthorne

Project Manager leading the renovation of the parks, gardens and buildings at Cannon Hall £3.8 million project which includes desilting lakes, improving biodiversity, renovating Grade II listed buildings and structures and general large scale landscaping concluding in March 2021.The role includes managing the grounds maintenance team and attracting new fundingFrom March 2021 working at Worsbrough Mill Country Park, making landscape improvements, monitoring the SSSi, working in partnership with Wigfield Farm to develop the fields into grassland rich meadows using grazing of animals and alternative agricultural methods for the benefit of the environment and students. Looking at alternative energy sources to reduce our carbon footprint. Woodland management, working with volunteers and anglers to improve water quality. Developing a masterplan for funding future expansion and improvement of the visitor offer.

I managed the development of all open spaces, which includes play areas, paddling pools, multi user games areas, sports pitches and infrastructure, including town centres and open built environment, the maintenance and development of all council owned land, buildings, including the town hall, looking for alternative uses for buildings and to generate revenue income opportunities.I was the key consultee for all planning application developments for trees, hedges, landscaping, boundary treatments and layout of public open space, visual impact of housing estates, industrial estates and residential developments etc, I was directly involved in negotiations and calculations for Section 106 contributions and future maintenance of newly adopted open space.I over saw Civil Engineering projects such as pathways, building projects, play areas, procurement of utilities, consumables, consultants for specialisms and larger maintenance contracts. I managed a very good team of specialists, partnership agreements and contractor contracts.I dealt with service level agreements and partner organisations, I ensured funding was attracted to allow projects to progress, and ensured customer satisfaction was consistently kept at a high level.I managed large budgets and attracted several million pounds of external funding for development projects, I am experienced in procuring one off large projects and large maintenance contracts and can manage large complex financial systems.

Managing the grounds maintenance and street cleansing functions, leading on Green Flag and In Bloom entries, managing a large team of personnel. I also managed the purchase of goods and materials and machinery maintenance, health and safety and PPE. I also led on improvements to open spaces and worked closely with volunteers and set up friends groups to help manage the open spaces. I ensured local nature reserves were managed appropriately and funding was attracted to help facilitate this. I managed the budgets and ensured the financial regulations were adhered to in respect of procurement.

I worked for Chesterfield Borough Council for 5 years from 1998 until 2003 where I was employed as a Landscape assistant, I looked after play areas and landscape projects in parks and open spaces.Before this I attended the Welsh College of Horticulture from 1996 until 1998 where I gained a HND in Landscape Science, previous to this I worked on farms and landscape projects mainly as a machine driver and grounds operative.
