I am somewhat of an idealist at times and in the past, believed that there was a happy ending that would make everybody happy. I since have learned that although there is not a happy ending for everyone, there is a solution that will make the majority happy, and it is the best one for the group as a whole. My biggest weakness is personal. My parenting skills were put to a tough love test many years ago. I failed to adjust and adapt to what was really needed initially, but the experience made me realize that I needed to step back and reassess. I have been able to use this experience in my work environment to help me in my approach. I chose the infrastructure career path by pure chance; when I was 18 years old, on my way to my second year in college. I had not planned to work the summer before heading off to school, but signed up with a temporary agency to make a little extra spending money. About two weeks prior to school starting, I got the call, went in for a very temporary part-time position with a Prestressed Concrete company in Corpus Christi. I loved it. In the two weeks I was there, I really poured myself into my job (a field office clerk), the company took notice and offered me a position that would allow me to work and go to school at the same time….I said, why not, it’s interesting, it’s a challenge, it’s an opportunity and I was going to be making some “real” money! The rest is just history, just changed the avenue of construction from precast/prestressed concrete bridge members to public works infrastructure and operations. Years later added in development services and parks and moved up to Director/Managment in Public Works. My specialty is growth and development. I've grown and grew public works in Missouri City, LaPorte and Fulshear, Texas. The communities have prospered and are still growing. On the streets operations side I enjoy the aspects of rehabilitation/maintenance of public roadways, both concrete and asphalt, rehabilitation/maintenance of drainage structures, street sweeping and mosquito spraying, With Fleet Services, I oversee a four-man team that operates as an Enterprise system and is very efffectively and efficiently run and includes very compreshenisve vehicle replacement policy. On the Building Maintenance end, I oversee the management of a four man team that maintains the City's facilitites with a square footage well over 200,000 SF. In addition, I am accountable for the quality of the design and new construction for new public roads, drainage facilities, water/wastewater facilities, new city facilities, and many other publci works projects. My duties also let me be involved in development services where I sit as an advisory capacity on the City's Planning and Zoning Board to represent Public Works interests. I regularly attend pre-developement meetings and development meetings for new development and provide guidance and direction for development in accordance with the City's Public Works Infrastructure Ordinance and Utilities Planning Study.
