Sharon Walters is a London-based artist and project curator with over 20 years experience of coordinating, curating and delivering workshops, talks, and programmes, both in person and online.Since graduating with a degree in Fine Art from Central St Martins (University of the Arts) in 2011, Sharon has developed her practice and continued her work with community arts organisations and museums, using them as platforms to explore and collaborate with the voices of those who are often unheard. ‘Seeing Ourselves' is Sharon's current multidisciplinary series, which explores identity, beauty standards, and race, with a focus on reframing these representations to share her experiences as black woman in a celebratory, uplifting light. Through celebratory hand-assembled collages, Sharon empowers black women to 'take up space', be seen, and create their own spaces. As an artist, she has found great success with her limited edition prints being found in collections across the world. Additionally, as an experienced project curator, public programmer, and museum workshop coordinator, Sharon's unique engaging energy is adaptable across a range of environments, Sharon provides a tailored consultative approach at every stage, evident in the projects and opportunities she curates and delivers. She has undertaken projects in many settings including charitable organisations, museums, galleries, schools, and smaller informal groups, with sessions ranging from creative workshops to personal development and self esteem classes. Working with people of all ages, her focus has been on collaborating with communities that are largely under-represented in mainstream arts and heritage.
