As the company's founder and sole employee for a few years, I was responsible for all aspects of a small business- marketing, client communications (via email, phone, text, and handwritten notes), payment and bookkeeping, keeping track of a complicated and constantly changing schedule, and of course, animal care. When I started bring more sitters on to my team I became responsible for hiring and firing, and all aspects of managing a team of up to 6 full and part-time workers. An intense attention to detail is required in a job where each sitter may have up to 40 different clients a week, each with unique needs and desires. Workers must be very reliable and responsible, as they hold keys to clients' homes and are responsible for the safety and security of both the pets and the property. It was important to instill a sense of responsibility and accountability in each pet sitter, in a job that is highly sought-after for its "fun factor." Balancing fun and safety was essential. Our clients were very impressed with our reliability, excellent communication, and flexibility, which was due in large part to my skills in communicating, staffing, and scheduling.

At Deck The Walls I assisted customers in choosing art prints and designing custom framing for their art, photos, and mementos. I also helped with framing: cutting mats, assembling frames, dry-mounting, etc. I was responsible for basic sales tasks such as adding up orders, processing payments, and counting out the cash drawer.
