Homie is a VC-backed tech startup that provides streamlined real estate transactions at a fraction of the traditional cost. I created the brand communications platform and the strategy that guides Homie's content development. I encouraged my team to develop a growth mindset and apply agile development concepts to marketing initiatives. With the help of my team, agencies and freelancers, I accelerated growth through creative, digital, events, PR, social, email, broadcast, and outdoor marketing channels. Our marketing strategies and content catapulted Homie from an unknown start-up to the #1 listing brokerage in the state within one year. I also launched Homie in the state of Arizona, devising strategies that would allow Homie to scale its operations and marketing efforts.

As BrandHive’s Director of Strategic Content Marketing, I developed transformational ideas and converted them into strategic brand initiatives and associated creative. I wrote copy for all the agency’s creative clients and managed freelancers. To develop a brand story and brand communications platform for a new client, I worked with project managers and team members to research industry and product-specific trends and interview pertinent individuals. Based on the client’s strategies and approved messaging, I executed over 150 marketing projects with budgets ranging in scope from tens of thousands to multi-millions. I developed strategic messaging for over 60 brands in the active nutrition and healthy living space, including DuPont, Kyolic, Solgar, Ajinomoto and Andalou Naturals. I also worked intimately with the agency’s Director of New Business Development and co-founders to help BrandHive grow into the well-respected international full-service agency it is today.

This fast-paced ad agency with an international clientele honed my skills and expanded my understanding of what makes a campaign successful. My work covered three areas of branding: strategic positioning (researching the brand, writing brand stories and positioning statements); brand development (writing web copy, brochures, sell sheets, ads, white papers); and brand management (social media and creative campaigns). BrandHive clients included start-ups in need of new packaging, logos and brand identities, as well as established brands such as LycoRed, Schiff Nutrition and Kyowa Hakko. Clients were in the healthcare or supplement industry.

I started with 4Life as their Marketing Communications Manager and was promoted to Director of Marketing. As Director of Marketing, I led a team of 20+ creatives, growing their skills and helping them think strategically. I was in charge of all web, print, and multi-media creative for a $150 million-a-year company. I refreshed the brand, created a brand manual and editorial style guide, redesigned the website (viewable at www.4life.com), conducted market research, initiated and managed all domestic marketing campaigns, and worked with international staff to implement campaigns in 13 international offices.

At Chapelle, I authored five books on feng shui. I wrote the copy, conducted the photoshoots, and worked with the graphic designer on the layout of each book. My first book placed 8th on Amazon.com within a year and is still backlisted on Sterling.com's website.

Here's where I learned how to write and edit copy. I wrote training manuals, system administration guides, user guides, web text, online help modules, and training curriculums. Some days I was a bit weary of techno-speak, but the rigor and skills I acquired at 3M have served me in every job since.
