Sharon Curl is the President North America for Oxford International Education Group and former co-owner of their Canadian schools. Sharon and Makiko Yonenaga opened Vancouver Maple Leaf Language College (VMLLC) in 1990 and in 2002 VMLLC formed a partnership with Eurocentres at which time they began operating her schools in Vancouver and Toronto under the Eurocentres Canada brand. In 2013 Sharon and Makiko sold the schools to Oxford International Education Group and Sharon continued with the company as the Managing Director and later became President for North America. The company now also owns schools in San Diego, New York, Halifax in addition to the original schools in Vancouver and Toronto. The company also runs Pathway Programs and IELTS test centres across Canada and the USA including Pathway Programs with San Francisco State University and Mercy College. Sharon is very active in the Canadian English as a Second Language industry, being the first president of the Canadian Association of Private Language Schools (CAPLS) as well as being a member on numerous industry working groups over the years including EMAB, NEMR, ACISI and various committees for other government departments including Canadian Heritage, Citizenship and Immigration Canada and the Canadian Education Centre Network. Sharon chaired the steering committee which brought CAPLS and the CLC together to form Languages Canada and has been very active in the association since its inception. Sharon is currently the Immediate Past President of Languages Canada after serving as President for 5 years. From 2008 to Present she has served on the Board and Executive Committee of Languages Canada .
