Svp And Chief Of Operations/StrategyEmcode Feb 2019 - Jan 2020As SVP and Chief, my role was to evaluate and improve performance and maintain oversight of a vendor charged with coding and revenue cycle functions. The multi-healthcare system was struggling even with contracting out multiple services. Departmental and facility goals were not being met and change was not happening as outlined. This included financial goals and quality metrics. Operations were evaluated and systems were put in place that set staff with functions to meet their abilities, addressed education in report monitoring/data analysis and education. Relationships were strengthened with leadership, clinical documentation improvement, coding, and patient financial services through developing better tools for collaboration, reporting, and analysis. Successes included reduction of DNFB from 8 days to goal, improvement of clean claim rate from 79% to 92%, improvement of physician average RAF score from .91 to 1.200, reduction of denied account by age to all-time low of less than 10% beyond 60 days. Other projects have included Managed discharge not final billed totally more than 200 million dollars with 95% reduction, Implemented ambulatory CDI process for practices of 8000+ physicians with 98% increase risk adjustment factor over 6-month period, Increased risk adjustment factor scores for providers as much as 47% system wide.

In this role, I led system wide education of everything audit related for Senior leadership and staff. Software was developed, weekly educational webinars were held, and a dashboard was created for monitoring. The initiative was successful with 100% of facilities ready to respond and act on denials. Maintained a discussion success rate with the RAC at 76% overturn for RAC medical necessitydenials and a 93% overturn for RAC coding denials. Leadership at all levels were equipped with information needed and talking topics/areas to focus on in monitoring processes for their individual facilities. -

In partnership with staff we were able to reduce AR days to an all-time low of 2.99 days at the large teaching facility of 800+ bed facility, Reducing DNFB can be a challenge at any facility. We managed to reduce the facility DNFB to the lowest in the history of the department while maintaining Corporate Compliance audit scores of 100% as historical first, and eliminating contract coders for the first time since the early 90s. The Medicare Inpatient Only procedure process was also evaluated and reorganized with 0 procedures that fell out of compliance in 2005.
