Filmmaker Hyman’s APARTNERS is the first-ever feature documentary about LAT, “living apart together” relationships, or what she coined “apartners” — committed partners who live apart. Its goal is to show that options exist for healthy loving relationships. The director is dedicated to normalizing LAT relationships and fostering their acceptance in society at large. Most recently, Ms. Hyman was interviewed by The New York Times about the advantages of LAT relationships. After researching the subject for many years and being an apartner herself for a quarter of a century, Sharon Hyman has become a much sought-after expert to speak on the subject. She has received appearance requests from The NBC Today Show, CBS Inside Edition, CTV and CBC Television, the BBC, Radio New Zealand, Radio Australia and The Oprah Winfrey Network. Ms. Hyman has also been featured in numerous publications discussing apartnering, including The Guardian, ELLE Magazine, Harper's Bazaar, Men’s Health Magazine, The Times UK, The Toronto Star, The Globe and Mail, The New York Post, Chatelaine Magazine, PopSugar, El Confidential, Psychology Today, and BBC World. The director has been producing, writing, directing and editing humorous personal documentaries since her youth. Her films WORRIED and NEVERBLOOMERS: THE SEARCH FOR GROWNUPHOOD were critically acclaimed and broadcast nationwide. Ms. Hyman holds a Master's degree in Educational Technology. She is a lifelong community activist whose master’s thesis focused on the use of film and other media to promote social learning and attitude change. She continues to employ these tools to raise awareness about human rights and social justice issues. Most recently she spearheaded a successful media campaign to retain affordable housing in her Montreal municipality. She and her neighbours’ efforts successfully defeated a multimillion dollar gentrification project and their work led to one of the most progressive bylaws protecting tenants’ rights in the country.
