I am excited to start as a postdoctoral fellow with the Road Home Program at Rush University Medical Center. It is my privilege to treat Veterans as they recover from symptoms of PTSD and other comorbid disorders. My graduate training was founded on the scientist-practitioner model, and I am pursuing career opportunities that allow my clinical work to be informed by research. I am interested in settings that emphasize evidence-based and trauma-informed care, provided in a multidisciplinary setting, such as a VA medical center or academic medical center.I have experience working with a variety of clinical populations, including college students, Veterans, and adults with serious mental illness who are involved in the criminal justice system. My training goals have been to develop broad competencies working with adult clients with increasingly complex presentations and to refine my skills at assessment and report writing. Before attending graduate school, I worked in veterinary medicine. That experience sensitized me to the specific mental health needs of this population and shaped my research interests which focus on risk factors for negative mental health outcomes for veterinary professionals. My research projects have included the following topics:1) PTSD in the veterinary workplace2) the impact of ethical dilemmas and moral distress on veterinary support staff3) experiences of discrimination reported by LGBTQI+ veterinarians and veterinary studentsMy personal motto is "Always leave things better than you found them," and that is how I show up for work every day, striving to leave people and places in better condition than when I arrived.
