Affiliate Scholar (Non-Paid)Oberlin College May 2017 - May 2020Oberlin, Ohio*Collaborated with Oberlin’s Office of Environmental Sustainability, the Committee on Environmental Sustainability, the Bonner Center for Service Learning and the Environmental Studies Program. *Surveying local merchants to assess opportunities for matching products and services provided with the needs and wants of Oberlin College students*Conducting “buy local” campaigns*Assessing needs and policy options for local public transit and bike and pedestrian-friendly policy *Collaborated on and supported a variety of research endeavors. *Played an instrumental collaborative role in the development and implementation of “Community Voices” component of Environmental Dashboard. This is a software package and a program that is designed to combine images and words drawn from the community to develop pro-community and pro-environmental messages that create positive social norms. This content is currently featured on digital signs throughout the Oberlin community. With grant support acquired by Rumi Shammin, Cindy Frantz and John Petersen, the technology has now been implemented in four other college communities. I assisted in various ways with research on the efficacy of the technology and on different messaging strategies. I played a particularly important role in identifying members of underrepresented groups within Oberlin for interviews.*Served as a consultant on the design of the “Ohio Small Town Survey” – a longitudinal comparative study of the impact of sustainability initiatives on public attitudes and behaviors in the City of Oberlin and the City of Berea Ohio. *Reviewed the survey and assisted with distribution.*Co-authored on presentations at national meetings. For example, in January of 2016 I co-lead a presentation and a workshop at the annual meeting of the National Center for Science Education in DC, “Environmental Dashboard: Combining display of real-time resource use with community voices to celebrate & empower stewardship” -
