In my time with Paychex, I worked with several hundred small businesses on a wide range of Human Resource and Account Management projects. One day was never the same as the next! From implementing best practices, to just handling the day to day surprises and challenges of HR I worked with my clients to give them a sense of confidence in the decisions they made. I really felt that I was a partner in so many of my clients businesses. I'm humbled that some still would like to continue working with me. Which is why I went into business for myself!

Surtek is regarded as the leader in Chemical Enhanced Oil Recovery. They developed the technology decades ago and I was honored to help them improve their processes and data integrity by developing detailed process documentation and data control factors. In addition to reporting on laboratory results, I managed several HR functions like benefits administration, on-boarding and terminations, policy handbooks, employee relations, and compliance. I also handled contract review and negotiations, vendor management, accounts receivables and collections, and made sure we had a great lunch once a month to celebrate birthdays!It was a tough decision to leave, but there was adventure awaiting me in Tulsa, Oklahoma!

FishTrax was a community based organization focused on helping adults transition into new careers with focused and personalized internships, coaching, and mentoring.Each student went through a 12 hour course on professionalism. I was thrilled that even an Air Force Academy graduate and 20 year veteran said he learned a lot from that course.Throughout the program, I met with folks individually to work on coaching items like time management, interview skills, and resume writing, but we often dealt with personal issues as well. They had a champion that was invested in their future.Each student was assigned to several corporate partners that matched their studies in order to practice in a real world environment what they were learning in the classroom. They received weekly feedback on their work and learned as much in that hands on setting as they did in their courses. They walked away from those assignments with letters of recommendations, a full resume, and confidence they could do the job.I was sad to discontinue this work. The financial climate at the time was rough and some personal issues forced a very tough decision to close the doors.

I was hired as a temp to do data entry. Little did I know I would have to develop the spreadsheets and methodology to manage the data! I learned Excel by reading the manuals my first week on the job. I quickly realized the project needed a database to be effective, so I started working on that. Then I thought, if we could see data from previous steps in the process, that would improve analysis and reduce time in the process. By the time is was done, I had developed a PC based shop floor control and data collection system that increased our throughput from 100 units a week to over 1,000. We installed the system in Ireland which was a wonderful opportunity to see that magnificent country. I am still to this day thankful for all I learned in my time with Digital Equipment Corporation, and then Quantum Corporation. The manufacturing process standards are still useful to me today when working on efficiencies in an organization, and I still do process documentation and improvement with my clients now. This was the best straight out of college experience I could hope for!
