Teacher of Design (Second in Design)

I provided services to individual clients on short and long-term web & marketing contracts. This included conducting research, writing content, editing and uploading online content, editing for print, proofreading for print and web, social media, blogging, picture research, image creation for print and web. My clients ranged from companies with large e-commerce websites to small businesses in the service, design, technology and tourism sectors.

As part of the content team at digital web agency Civic, I provided services to clients including; planning and project life-cycle support, research, copywriting, editing, web content administration, proofreading and content management. The websites I worked on included over eleven for the Scottish Government and its various initiatives (such as transportscotland.gov.uk). I was regularly involved from planning through to launch and beyond, which frequently required direct client liaison. My role involved being able to use the bespoke content management systems built by the company and a variety of other software. Through Civic I worked on a huge range of online and offline public sector, commercial and B2B projects.

My main remit for Run Deep during this period was ongoing web editing responsibilities for the Scottish Enterprise (NGO) website scottishbusinesswomen.com for which I had sole responsibility for content across the site. This included researching and writing articles and information pages, populating the ‘news’ page, sourcing & editing images, writing and sending out a newsletter, scheduled tasks such as link checking, site statistics and monthly reports to the client. I also attended quarterly meetings at the Scottish Enterprise headquarters and maintained weekly phone contact with the client.

Initially joining the company as PR Co-ordinator, I moved into the position of Web Editor within a few months when the opportunity arose. As one of two full time web editors working at Run Deep I had a lively schedule creating content plans, doing research, writing content, inputting content, proofreading and editing for various clients including Scottish Enterprise, Scottish Further Education Unit, Association of Scottish Colleges, Arran Aromatics, Entrepreneurial Exchange, Stevenson College, Global Companies and more. Much of my work during this time involved direct contact with the client both face to face and via email and telephone.

Before I accepted my position at Run Deep, I worked for 3 months at Access Computing, a Sun Microsystems reseller, primarily as their in-house Web Editor, although my job title was meant to reflect my additional responsibilities supporting the marketing department in their advertising and marketing strategies. I left this company, after much consideration, because Run Deep had approached me with an excellent career opportunity.

EHS Architectural are suppliers of ironmongery and windows to the building trade. I was employed to implement a marketing strategy, which involved the creation of a database of potential customers, creation of a digital catalogue and a direct mail campaign.
