    Worked alongside the Exhibition Manager to develop a programme of events, talks and activities aimed at taking marine science out to the general public and bringing it to life. I also produced and led a number of educational workshops - mainly focussed on marine litter, pollution and microbeads - which were presented to a diverse audience, from the general public to members of our 'Marine Explorers'​ kids club.One of my main tasks during the ScotGrad programme was to organise the Marine Week celebration. Through 10 days of organised events, from 'Meet the Expert'​ talks and workshops to rockpooling sessions, the Exhibition made over £2000, a significant amount for a non-profit community organisation which relies on donations upon entry.Also heavily involved in developments taking place at the Exhibition which will see it converted into an aquarium through the introduction of a number of new tanks, making it the Europe's first catch and release aquarium.

    Deckhand on MV Islander based in Tobermory which runs boat tours to Staffa and the Treshnish Isles. Responsibilities included general deckhand tasks (e.g. basic roping) and interacting with tourists. Tourists were usually given freedom to explore the islands during the trips but I often chose to accompany them, guiding them around the islands whilst discussing and pointing out the wildlife. Knowledge of the area, sealife, and birdlife was essential. A level of focus was needed to spot wildlife at sea and on land and then enabling the tourists to view birds or animals responsibly, preventing any unnecessary disturbance.Through working for the company, I was able to spend some time undertaking research for my honours project focussed on the colony of Atlantic Puffin found on the island of Lunga in the Treshnish Isles. This involved collecting data concerning feeding behaviour on a number of occasions, even spending 3 days (2 nights) on the island alone.

    Originally volunteered at the community radio station as part of the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme, but quickly worked my way up from answering telephones and taking music requests to producing and presenting my own weekly show. 'Friday Live' was aimed at a wide audience in terms of entertainment but mainly focussed on subjects relating to teenagers and young adults. Worked as a team with two friends to develop the programme each week, researching topics for discussion and arranging audio files to be played on air (music, adverts, jingles).It was also my task to work the mixing desk during these live broadcasts, involving a great deal of multi-tasking (mixing console, computer, music files/CDs, interacting with listeners through social networks), as well as talking live on air, and completing and organising paperwork.Spent a great deal of time editing files, such as adverts or pre-recorded shows, which were to be broadcast later. This was important when I became heavily involved in producing material concerning the local music festival (Hebridean Celtic Festival) which included interviewing and recording members of the general public and musicians/bands that were due to perform. Questions were to be developed prior to interviews in most cases, involving a great deal of research where musicians were involved, but I also had to show initiative, listening carefully during interviews and coming up with new questions on the spot.I also occasionally featured on other radio programmes which involved integrating myself into conversations and situations that were different to those concerning my own show.
