About Shashwath Sreedhar, Ph.D., P.E.
I am working as a Project Engineer (Pavement group) at GRI. My work deals with pavement materials characterization, pavement design, evaluation and management of pavement networks, and construction administration of road projects. Clients range from commercial properties, cities, counties, state DOT as well as airports. Non-destructive techniques such as Falling Weight Deflectometer (FWD) and Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) for structural and functional pavement evaluation are part of my expertise. My responsibilities also includes writing proposals, reviewing final reports, mix designs, soil bore data etc. Forensic evaluation of pavement failures are part of my experience.I obtained a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Civil Engineering from Oregon State University, specializing in pavement engineering and technology with a minor in Statistics. I am interested in areas such as pavement material characterization and sustainable engineering. As a research assistant, my projects were related to asphalt material characterization for fatigue cracking, improving the performance of asphalt pavements with higher RAP/RAS contents, developing a long-term aging protocol for asphalt mixtures and developing a performance-based mix design (Balanced Mix Design) for Oregon. I have published several scholarly journal articles pertaining to these topics and have also been a part of several technical reports for Oregon Department of Transportation. I also have presented my research at the Transportation Research Board Annual Meetings.
Listed skills include Microsoft Office, Construction, Civil Engineering, Autocad, and 2 others.

Graduate Research Assistant
Research Projects:1. Developed performance based specifications for asphalt mixture design to be implemented in the state of Oregon.2. Adjusting asphalt mixes for increased durability and implementation of a performance tester to evaluate fatigue cracking of asphalt concreteThis study focuses on characterizing the cracking performance of asphalt pavements in Oregon by considering four tests commonly used to evaluate fatigue cracking resistance and proposing implementation of the most cost-effective and efficient test procedure for agencies and contractors. Also, the impact of asphalt mixture properties, such as binder content, air-void content, aggregate gradation, polymer modification, and aging, on cracking performance of asphalt mixtures was investigated. Mechanistic-empirical (ME) design modeling and life-cycle costs analysis were also conducted to determine cost and performance effectiveness of asphalt mixtures with varying properties. 3. Binder-grade bumping and high binder content to improve performance of RAP-RAS mixturesIn this study, the performance and cost benefits of using binder-grade bumping and increased binder content strategies in RAP and RAS mixture production in Oregon are quantified. To be able to provide recommendations for asphalt mixture design procedures, blending of binder around RAP is also quantified by using an innovative procedure developed in this study. 4. Developed a long-term aging protocol for asphalt mixtures to better understand the fatigue cracking performance of asphalt samples.
Graduate Teaching Assistant
Teaching:ME10001 - MechanicsCE29003 - Transportation Engineering Laboratory: Mentored students to perform laboratory experimentsResearch:As part of my Master’s thesis, I worked on a project with an objective to develop temperature predictive models using various thermo-physical properties of different pavement systems. The scope of the work included lab testing of samples representing different pavement types and also field study incorporating measurement of pavement surface temperatures with a view to correlate lab and field conditions. This study was a small step towards understanding, analyzing and reducing the Urban Heat Island effect.
Graduate Engineering Trainee
As a Graduate Engineer Trainee, was responsible for steel and reinforcement works at Mantri DSK Pinnacle (South India's tallest residential tower in 2011).Did rotations in planning, QA/QC, and safety departments and have acquired a comprehensive understanding of the various functions and responsibilities in each department.
