I commenced employment with Beca in March 2013 following an enjoyable 27 years in the Defence Force as a member of the Royal Australian Navy. The Navy equipped me with a broad range of technical and management experience which assisted my transition into the private sector and has helped me to progress into a senior management position within the Beca Defence team.Key responsibilities in my current role as Operations Manager include; planning, development and achievement of strategic business goals, oversight of business line productivity and performance, accountability for formulating and delivering to the business line financial plan, oversight of resource management including recruitment and career development and, supporting and supervising our Section Managers.My previous position was Manager for Beca’s Defence business line across NSW/VIC, prior to that I performed the role of Defence Systems Leader where I was actively engaged in undertaking engineering consultancy tasks whilst concurrently responsible for the delivery of Beca projects across the Defence Maritime systems domain.My service in the Royal Australian Navy commenced in January 1986 as an Apprentice Electronic Technician. I performed in a multitude of roles within a range of unique environments and transitioned through several levels of responsibility. My employment history has significant breadth and encompasses areas such as; electronic systems maintenance management, middle to senior level technical management roles at sea and ashore, human resource management, system trials and evaluation, refit planning and liaison, configuration management, technical regulation, and quality management. My final role in the RAN was a Fleet Warrant Officer in Navy’s Engineering Division. This position combined duties associated with the assurance of platform technical integrity with the collective training and competency assessment of technical departments across all of the Navy’s platform types.
