I’ve gotten to help build some pretty awesome things - powertrain controls for the Chevrolet Volt / Bolt EV, software for SuperCruise, AI/ML for lvl2 self driving car map… When I think and try to subtract out right place / right time - I’m left with a powerful signal; I love working on cutting edge technologies with people who love what they do. I’ve been fortunate to find that three times in my career at General Motors. Previously, I’d found it in my graduate Adaptive Optics Laboratory, and its dual - the EcoCAR Vehicle Lab. Wherever I go next, I expect I’ll find the same & hope to continue for a long time what’s been a great career.

Calibration engineers integrate the general-purpose real time control system into a particular vehicle / powertrain architecture. Problems are found & solutions are proven by running tests (in-vehicle, simulation, dyno's) and analyzing data, as well as leading development of new software needed to enable unique features of new transmission designs / powertrain architectures.Particularly specializing in manipulating transmission output, engine and motor torques for drivability and handling powertrain system constraints (ie: Clutch capacities, slip mitigation, bus voltage & current, battery power, engine torque limits, motor torque limits, engine state transitions, regenerative braking) .Programs for which I've performed this task have been electric CVT vehicles like the Chevrolet Volt and Cadillac ELR. -

Uvic TeamEcocar Challenge 2008 - 2010Founding member of a student team involved in an automotive engineering competition among US and Canadian Universities. Designed, built and completed an advanced plug-in hybrid power-split powertrain for a small SUV. Design included simulation of powertrain alternatives, selection, design/sourcing/CAD/fabrication/ installation of parts, creation of a vehicle model and hardware in the loop controls development (dSpace, simulink, micro auto box), fuel economy modeling, reports and presentations.
