  • Ucsd
    Postdoctoral Scholar
    Ucsd Oct 2010 - May 2012
Characterizing the microRNA regulatory networks in differentiating human embryonic stem cells. Analysis of miRNA expression using miRNAseq of embryonic stems cells to definitive endoderm, an early differentiation step on the path to pancreatic beta cells (insulin producing cells).Developed and wrote bioinformatic pipeline to analyze the miRNAseq analysis, providing evidence of multiple overlapping miRNAs expressed from the same hairpins within the primary transcript and independent expression profiles.
  • University Of California, San Diego
    Graduate Research Assistant
University Of California, San Diego Sep 2002 - Oct 2009
Developed an analytical scheme to globally analyze the regulatory network of the conserved microRNA let-7, moving from higher-throughput to lower-throughput methods. Coordinated with a bioinformatics collaborator on the microarray analysis. Candidates tested by RNA interference for suppression of let-7 mutants. High priority suppressors validated as direct targets by reporter gene analysis using biolistic introduction.Other projects:Initiated a project combining Immuno-precipitation and Solexa sequencing to find all of the microRNA target binding sites in C. elegans.Written and modified PERL scripts for various genomic analyses, including PCR primer mispriming analysis, BLAST parsing, and simple sequence repeat analysis.
  • Washington University School Of Medicine
    Laboratory Assistant
Washington University School Of Medicine Aug 1998 - Jul 2002
Took over and organized an ongoing positional cloning project in zebrafish. Ordered genomic clones creating the biggest contig of the zebrafish genome at the time. Contributed this data to the beginning zebrafish genome sequencing project. Used both plate sequencing and later capillary sequencing machines to generate new markers for further genetic and physical mapping.
