The in-house role allowed me to develop and explore an in-depth understanding of one very diverse international brand and its multidirectional goals. Chalked up improved quality/speed of job turnaround, increased value of returns on marketing spend. My experience with Pioneer was that I had the opportunity to build something with a long-term strategy in mind.

Initially freelancing from the Surface Active Graphic Design studio was recruited as Creative Director of this budding brand management studio. The Managing Director and I established the studio in the Christchurch city centre. We collaborated fruitfully as a writer/art director duo. A dynamic, sustained effort of pitching for and winning new business saw the billings and client base of the studio grow rapidly to an assortment of brands for two to handle, so a second designer joined 6 months later, followed by a copywriter and two more designers a year down the track, after moving the studio to new, larger premises.
