Undergraduate Student Researcher

Center For Earth Observation Sciences (Ceos) - University Of Alberta

Edmonton, Canada Area

Under the supervision of Dr. Arturo Sanchez-Azofeifa, I fulfilled the requirements of my undergraduate research thesis in Santa Rosa National Park, Costa Rica. The focus of my study looked at the effect of liana presence (a fast growing woody vine commonly found in tropical areas after a disturbance) on the acoustic complexity of the soundscape in a tropical dry forest. I gained valuable field experience during this research project, particularly in the use of off-road vehicles, in adapting to unforeseen problems when away from camp, the proper installation and maintenance of equipment and in effectively preparing and mitigating the hazards associated with tropical research. Office experience improved my abilities in data management and processing, the interpretation of quantitative data and literature research and writing.
