The NSS was established in 1987 to support the Secretary of Defense in his role as the President’s Executive Agent (EA) for the Nuclear Command and Control System. The EA is tasked to provide independent oversight of the NCCS, encompassing all of the organizations that make up the NCCS. The Commander, U.S. Strategic Command serves in an independent capacity as the Director of the NSS. The NSS is an interagency staff of approximately 20 military, DoD civilian, and DOE functional experts. The Director, NSS has specific responsibilities to:1. Monitor and Assess the NCCS on a continuing basis2. Facilitate Integration among NCCS Departments and Agencies and sharing of lessons learned and best practices3. Coordinate the Management of the NCCS4. Prepare an Annual Report from the Executive Agent to the President on the status of the NCCS5. Serve as a Member of the NCCS Committee of Principals6. Review NCCS-Related Policy and Guidance to facilitate alignment of implementing guidance with Presidential policyThe cyber branch is focused on monitoring, assessing, as well as providing leadership and guidance on cyber initiatives across the NCCS. These initiatives include assessments, exercises and policy. We continually are reaching out and building partnerships with other cyber organizations and agencies throughout the U.S. Government, civilian sector, and academia.

In this position I served as information assurance manager and security manager to a high performance computing environment which included an open storage room, two supercomputers, and two research networks. I was the project manager for all certification and accreditation efforts and was granted authority to operate on four systems within two years.I provided direct and full time security (PERSEC, PHYSEC, OPSEC, AT/FP, SETA, and Tech Protect), cyber intelligence, and information assurance expertise to over 200 personnel who operated on the systems.I continually assessed risk, provided guidance to senior leadership on IA issues, and provided guidance to IT acquisition. I prepared IA implementation plans, conducted implementation of required IA controls, prepared IA Artifacts, System Security Plans, and IA Risk assessment artifacts. My technical duties included preparing, planning, implementing and conducting auditing and validation efforts.Each year I provided 30, 2 hour face to face security training sessions to a command of over 8000 personnel.

During this period I worked in the CIO/G6, TACOM LCMC as an information assurance security officer (IASO) and deputy information assurance manager (IAM) to a workforce of over 8,000 personnel.I provided direction and established organization methods and procedures. Developed key parts of our IA program including a security audit checklist, product testing SOP, and incident response plan. Provided cyber intelligence updates to the anti-terrorism force protection working group. Served as IA helpdesk manager responding to 50 emails and 5 phone calls per day. Interpreted and implemented the DoD IA workforce improvement program (8570.01-M) throughout TACOM LCMC. Gave monthly new employee orientation training. Developed custom IA training DVD for the command

In this position I served as a research assistant to the Department Chair of the Computer and Information System and Criminal Justice programs. Research focused on cybercrime from a historical and legal standpoint. Other duties included coordinating meetings and events to further the CIS / IA program.

In this position I served as an IT specialist intern for the Wayne’s County Sheriff’s Office, working directly for the Chief Technology Officer.I securely installed, setup, and troubleshot video conferencing systems. Upgraded all hardware and software in the police training rooms. Served as system administrator and account manager for the Law Enforcement Information Network (LEIN).
