Chief, Cyber BranchU.S. Nuclear Command And Control System (Nccs) Support Staff (Nss) Apr 2014 - Oct 2016The NSS was established in 1987 to support the Secretary of Defense in his role as the President’s Executive Agent (EA) for the Nuclear Command and Control System. The EA is tasked to provide independent oversight of the NCCS, encompassing all of the organizations that make up the NCCS. The Commander, U.S. Strategic Command serves in an independent capacity as the Director of the NSS. The NSS is an interagency staff of approximately 20 military, DoD civilian, and DOE functional experts. The Director, NSS has specific responsibilities to:1. Monitor and Assess the NCCS on a continuing basis2. Facilitate Integration among NCCS Departments and Agencies and sharing of lessons learned and best practices3. Coordinate the Management of the NCCS4. Prepare an Annual Report from the Executive Agent to the President on the status of the NCCS5. Serve as a Member of the NCCS Committee of Principals6. Review NCCS-Related Policy and Guidance to facilitate alignment of implementing guidance with Presidential policyThe cyber branch is focused on monitoring, assessing, as well as providing leadership and guidance on cyber initiatives across the NCCS. These initiatives include assessments, exercises and policy. We continually are reaching out and building partnerships with other cyber organizations and agencies throughout the U.S. Government, civilian sector, and academia.

I was the project manager for all certification and accreditation efforts and was granted authority to operate on four systems within two years.I provided direct and full time security (PERSEC, PHYSEC, OPSEC, AT/FP, SETA, and Tech Protect), cyber intelligence, and information assurance expertise to over 200 personnel who operated on the systems.I continually assessed risk, provided guidance to senior leadership on IA issues, and provided guidance to IT acquisition. I prepared IA implementation plans, conducted implementation of required IA controls, prepared IA Artifacts, System Security Plans, and IA Risk assessment artifacts. My technical duties included preparing, planning, implementing and conducting auditing and validation efforts.Each year I provided 30, 2 hour face to face security training sessions to a command of over 8000 personnel. -
