Exploring responses that bring hope and meaning amidst the intertwined crises unfolding as you read these words.Through three distinct online offerings, Shaun Chamberlin and distinguished guests offer pathways to explore together the critical issues shaping our world. I joined forces with Dr. David Fleming - inventor of TEQs and father of the PCT field - in 2006, and edited the second and third editions of his seminal Energy and the Common Purpose, as well as the relevant section of the book Climate Code Red.I then accepted an invitation to DECCs Personal Carbon Allowances Advisory Group, reviewing progress in the government's feasibility study of TEQs. The outputs of this study were published in 2008, and Dr. Fleming and I co-authored the official response of The Lean Economy Connection (now the Fleming Policy Centre). This same year, the UK’s All Party Parliamentary Group on Peak Oil and Gas commissioned us to write a report for them on TEQs. This was eventually published in 2011, after Dr. Fleming’s death, receiving significant political and media interest internationally.Over the years I have spoken widely on TEQs/PCT, to audiences ranging from community groups and Climate Camps to the London School of Economics, the UK Committee on Climate Change, the UK and Scottish Parliaments and the European Commission. I am a member of a number of other policy working groups and advisory panels, including the FEASTA think tank’s Energy and Climate Working group and the UK Green Party’s Energy Policy Group, and have advised PCT projects by the RSA, DeMontfort University and Australia's NICHE pilot.I have written on TEQs for a variety of academic and popular publications (e.g. Carbon Management, The Oil Drum, Resurgence), and contributed chapters to a number of books, including Grow Small, Think Beautiful: Ideas for a Sustainable World from Schumacher College (Floris Books 2011, ed. Stephan Harding) and What We Are Fighting For: A Radical Collective Manifesto (Pluto Press 2012, eds. Federico Campagna and Emanuele Campiglio), in addition to including advocacy for TEQs in my own 2009 book.

After working with Chelsea Green on the publication of my own book and my late friend David Fleming's books, I accepted a role as their first Commissioning Editor for the UK and Europe, identifying book projects in line with their mission: to reverse the destruction of the natural world by challenging the beliefs and practices that are enabling this destruction, and by providing inspirational and practical alternatives that promote sustainable living.

Unpaid role advising DECC on 'personal carbon allowances' and how they could ameliorate the twin challenge of climate change and peak oil, with specific interest and expertise in carbon/energy rationing, which for them falls under this umbrella.

Managing the Learning Centre at the Kaleidoscope Project for marginalised groups (primarily drug misusers, asylum seekers and the mentally ill). This began as temping work, but I was quickly offered a contract as administrator for the Learning Centre and then trained for and took on teaching work. Within a few years I accepted the role of manager for the full learning centre operation, with responsibility for 12 staff and volunteers, and successfully sought funding to secure the future of the threatened centre.

After training at York College alongside my degree at the University of York, I began practising in the Kingston area.
