For over 30 years I have been a leading commercial litigation lawyer in Australia and Asia, focussed on intellectual property disputes and strategy. I have worked with global clients across various industries and sectors, from pharmaceuticals and life sciences to big yellow digging and earth-moving machines, music and wine. From Fortune 50 to start ups.I have handled some of the most complex and high-profile IP cases in Australia and the Asia Pacific, including the only two pharmaceutical patent cases to be heard by the High Court of Australia in the last two decades, my client being successful in each. I have also been involved in shaping IP law and policy in the region, through publications, seminars, and engagements with regulators and stakeholders.I have a passion for innovation and excellence, and enjoy solving challenging IP, legal, and business issues. I have particular expertise in multi-jurisdictional legal issues and disputes, and am experienced and adept at identifying, managing and mitigating cross-border legal risks. I have extensive experience working with, and coordinating the work of, other professional firms around the world, navigating diverse cultures, legal systems and languages. As the inaugural Global Head of Pharmaceuticals at Herbert Smith Freehills, a role I held until my retirement from the firm in late 2023, I led a team of over 100 lawyers across more than 20 offices, providing strategic advice and representation to clients in the pharmaceuticals, life sciences, and agri-science industries. I also have a strong entrepreneurial spirit, having founded, managed and operated several different businesses on "the journey" in parallel with my legal career. I am inspired by young entrepreneurs and their abundance mindset and am keen to help out wherever I can, whether as an Angel Investor, a NED, or just as a sounding board.
