I joined the practice in 2017 as an industrial placement student in the Arcus Liverpool Office. After recently graduating I was offered the opportunity to continue with Arcus as a Graduate Building Surveyor. I was a team member helping to deliver educational, commercial and housing projects.Since joining the practice I gained a wide variety of experience. This included traditional building surveying techniques/services such as defect analysis and technical reporting, measurement of land and property, design and specification and assisting with project management. I regularly assisted as an Assistant Contract Administrator in projects from inception to delivery, to practical completion and end of defects liability period.Throughout my time at Arcus my workload included commercial construction through exposure to Arcus clients, including local borough councils and universities. Over this time I continually strived to gain greater experience in my role; regularly liaising with clients, building up a rapport, and working on a wide variety of schemes which include council schools and commercial buildings. More recently I gained experience working with several social housing clients. This predominantly included measured surveys of sites to design and implement adaptations / refurbishment opportunities to the communal areas, with detailed analysis of the client requirements to create feasibility drawings and reports. This experience enabled me to enhance my surveying and design skills which I continuously strives to improve.

This position required me to work a three-week rotary shift pattern, displaying the mental and physical strength I have to adapt to situations. I would be designated to a specific task which required an eye for detail, ensuring all parts and components which I checked were accurate and had no defects.Communication with fellow workers was of the utmost importance to ensure our safety around the production line, whilst also working at a fast pace to ensure a smooth transition between areas.
