Retired as Chief Executive of The Association for Science Education (ASE) in August 2019, the largest subject association in the UK. Appointed as a director of CLEAPSS Premises 2020 Ltd supporting health and safety in the education sector. Throughout a diverse career, retained a passion for science with a keen interest in the support & resources required to facilitate excellence in the teaching & learning of science. I was a regular speaker at regional, national and international conferences before retirement. This included being a member of a variety of influential science education groups such as the Science on Stage UK National Steering Committee, the Education & Skills Policy Panel of the IET (Institution of Engineering & Technology) and the Education Advisory Committee of IMechE (Institution of Mechanical Engineers).With a degree in chemistry at Durham University and a PGCE at Cambridge University, entered the teaching profession. Following senior roles in science became headteacher of a failing secondary school where student numbers doubled, examination results improved and two positive Ofsted Inspections were achieved.After 7 years as a successful headteacher I became Chief Executive of a careers company. Following business acquisitions I became CEO of the Group Charity, concurrently overseeing 270+ employees in 5 companies across the education, not-for-profit, commercial & charitable sectors. Achieved 4 Sunday Times "Best Companies to Work For" awards and oversaw successful Ofsted Inspections as the leader of a school, a training provider, a Connexions service deliverer and a National Careers Service provider. A National College for Teaching & Leadership Consultant for the National Professional Qualification for Headteachers (NPQH) and Leading from the Middle (LftM) course for six years. I also chaired the Hertfordshire Response to Redundancy Group, the Hertfordshire Education-Business Links Consortium and the Hertfordshire Steering Group for Adult Information, Advice & Guidance services .
