Managed hardware activities during due diligence process of FARO acquisition alongside other ‘business as normal’ activities. Managing my team through the change and integration into the new business, adapting to new structures and processes whilst continuing with new product development and ongoing projects.

Promoted into the Directors’ team of GeoSLAM. Took more responsibility for hardware strategy overall, effectively managing the ongoing support and continuous improvement of existing products and developing new products for the future.Managed development of camera system required to unlock sales opportunities. This involved the development of new technology and processes for the company based on third party OEM components and precise timing requirements for system design to synchronise additional sensors. This development has become a standard accessory for the majority of units sold and saw an increase in sales leading to record breaking revenue in the 2022/23 financial year including two record breaking months.

Promoted to leadership team of GeoSLAM. Inherited team of three electrical and embedded firmware engineers. Grew team to seven members including a mechanical engineer, additional electronics and embedded firmware engineers. This management position forced me to expand my knowledge to include the fundamentals of firmware. Learned agile methodologies and management skills such as prioritisation based on business needs. Focused on solving quality issues in products, reducing failure rates of a key system component to a fifth of previous levels as well as management of projects to develop various accessories for the main product line which were commonly requested by customers such as drone mounts to unlock more revenue for the business.

After the merger between 3D Laser Mapping and GeoSLAM, I returned to a design role focusing on the design and development of mobile mapping and monitoring products, with the opportunity to work on the handheld range of LiDAR scanners and accessories on top of previous ongoing projects.Design and release of the ‘SR-50’ scanner used for measurement of shotcrete applications in underground mining resulting in a multi-year, multi-million-pound OEM deal with a global supplier of underground mining equipment. This was possible thanks to several customer meetings and prototypes, including going on-site to mines in Australia to get real world appreciation of the end user requirements including environment/conditions and resulted in an easy-to-use product, robust enough for the hostile conditions.

Promoted to the leadership team. Managing one design engineer and one manufacturing technician. Alongside responsibilities as design engineer, also managing micro and macro manufacturing schedules. Using passion and experience to motivate and develop the manufacturing team, ensuring efficient delivery of quality systems on schedule. Pivotal to the design and release of the first multi-platform mobile mapping system, the ROBIN. This involved upgrading several parts of existing systems to new technologies, pushing me to improve my electronics and systems design knowledge as well as applying knowledge from industry, education and personal projects. Utilised my project management to introduce the new product with capability for bespoke variations whilst meeting deadlines for increased order volumes.

Working with sales and marketing team to generate new, bespoke mobile mapping and monitoring products for a range of industries. Designing, manufacturing and installing bespoke systems worldwide based on customer requirements. Also provided after sales support and produced documentation for the full system life cycle and worked alongside patent attorneys for applications in the UK, South Africa, Canada and Australia.Brought design of GRP parts in house after completing advanced surface modelling course, resulting in greater control of product design and updates to existing technology such as the StreetMapperIV pod. This process helped provide key insights into the importance of considering design for assembly, manufacture, and production.Providing technical support helps feed back in to the design process and has increased my troubleshooting skills greatly whilst producing documentation such as bills of materials and technical manuals helps me hone an eye for detail.

Graduate position. Specifying and ordering components from BOMs. Designing components such as aluminium mounts and cable assemblies as well as manufacture/assembly of established systems and providing customer support. Responsible for manufacture and delivery of existing products as well as providing customer support for any issues. This improved my technical knowledge and troubleshooting skills significantly and would feed into engineering design work taken on in later roles.

Mentored and supported an undergraduate in their final of studying BEng Mechanical Engineering at Aston University.

Chosen from a pool of applicants to manage a team of 11 undergraduate students and 1 postgraduate student studying engineering, design and computer science as well as a small marketing team. The project consisted of designing, building and racing an 'urban concept' race car. The Aston car was made from from plywood, cardboard and bio-composites as well as powered by a Hydrogen Fuel Cell and featured a pivot mechanism allowing it to fold and reduce its parking footprint to less than that of a smart car.
