I enjoy "translation" between business and technology; between private and public sectors; between cultures across countries; between conflict and resolution.At the turn of the century, I graduated with Computer Engineering and Intellectual Property qualifications, combining IT and legal specializations. My first stint took the form of a "technology-legalese translator" working and training to be a Patent Agent. I later went on to develop my "business-technology" inclinations, managing and executing public-facing projects for the Government as a project manager.By 2012, the economy had just recovered from the 07/08 crisis, prompting my next opportunity with the original creator of consumer portable speakers, X-mini. There, a year of sorting out the IP portfolio and assisting offshore product development (between Singapore and China) sparked my interest in the broader spectrum of business operations and entrepreneurship. I went back to the public sector, at a time of strong signals to grow technology firms, keen to work on a leading-edge program.At IDA (now IMDA), I pitched a portfolio of high potential technology companies for Government programs and support, building long lasting relationships, support and tangible returns for my charges. But that was not sufficient. Each start-up had its own issues and, more importantly, oh-so-much untapped potential. Eager to continue what I started, I joined (one of) them!As employee no.19 of Handshakes, I took on the reins to drive sales and revenue of our flagship SaaS product. Through research, experimentation and failure, the sales strategy, model and marketing were completely revamped. The results were encouraging as sales and revenues increased multi-fold annually and we gained traction in the public and banking sectors across 3 countries (SG/MY/HK). There were scrambles to build the early supporting teams - I started the foundations of account management, tech support and the project management office - all of which are helmed by more qualified colleagues today. In recent years, I have left the SaaS sales in good hands to continue my interest in exploring new frontiers. In 2019, I created a new team and launched a new product line: Technology (Project) Solutions. Offering professional services to customise our COTS products into E2E AI solutions opened a new (and successful) revenue stream and market segment. In 2 years, our team has doubled sales year-on-year, going from scratch to >$4M annual sales.Today, Handshakes operates in Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam, Australia, China, Hong Kong and Japan.
