Shawn’s transportation engineering experience includes functional planning, concept design, transportation impact assessments, traffic simulations, and safety assessments. Other experience includes detailed design and multi-discipline project management.Functional planning experience includes both urban and rural roadway planning, ranging in size from local collector roads to expressways and freeways. Shawn has completed functional designs in existing ‘retrofit’ areas and in new development areas. He has extensive experience in traffic analysis, design, and planning for vehicular and non-motorized transportation facilities.Shawn is a gradate of Simon Fraser University's Next Generation Transportation Certificate which has provided him with an incredible breadth of knowledge for multi-modal transportation planning, analysis, and design.Shawn completed a province wide strategic network plan for the movement of oversize and overweight loads in Alberta, with recommendations ranging from legislation changes, corridor designation, and geometric designs.Shawn completed a main street concept planning project in Edmonton that implemented complete streets principals to enhance pedestrian realms and provide protected bicycle facilities while maintaining a vital commuter corridor in the downtown.Shawn has completed Transportation Impact Assessments (TIAs) for municipalities and private developers in western Canada. These typically included traffic analysis (Synchro/SimTraffic, HCM methodologies, Vistro, SIDRA, etc.) using standard and site-specific trip generation rates.Shawn has hosted numerous public open houses, and has held one-on-one stakeholder meetings with land and business owners. As a graphic designer and photographer, he has developed figures and large-format displays for public consultation and presentations. He has also facilitated several Value Planning workshops and made presentations to elected officials.
