The Associate Provost for Digital Learning and Strategy serves as the key steward of Rice’s digital strategy—leveraging best practices already in place across the University as well as introducing new approaches and collaborations to be scaled. Partners with University leadership, deans and faculty leaders to ensure that the academic mission of Rice is front-and-center in every digital initiative undertaken. Responsible for guiding and coordinating digital innovation for teaching methods and supporting technologies. Reports directly to the Provost and is part of the University’s senior strategic leadership team charged with carrying out Rice’s vision and devising and implementing Rice’s strategic goals.

Support the Vice Provost for Learning Innovation and Digital Education in the overall leadership and management of the organization; responsible for managing the day-to-day administration and operations. Directly oversees Learning Innovation’s digital education, teaching innovation, infrastructure, and product design and development directors and teams.

I lead the Center for Instructional Technology (CIT) in its mission to help faculty explore, develop and evaluate innovative ways to use technology and new pedagogies to meet their teaching goals. Read our annual report (linked below)

Led the Center for Instructional Technology's (CIT) work with other groups on campus to plan the evolution of Duke’s suite of eLearning tools, platforms and collaborations including Sakai, WordPress, Kaltura, Coursera and others.

2011-2012 - CIT lead for Duke’s transition from the Blackboard learning management system to Sakai Collaborative Learning Environment. Developed and executed plans for communications, training and consulting. Worked with the core Sakai Team on technical, training, support and strategic/governance aspects of the transition. Served as functional liaison to vendors to help define scope, verify service and meet project requirements. Managed instructional design and functional support teams.Consulted with faculty on the integration of innovative technology into their teaching and advocates for faculty in the broader university technology infrastructure.

Led the planning, development and successful transition of Duke’s WordPress service from pilot phase to production (2009-2011). Led Duke Digital Initiative (DDI) programs exploring Flip cameras (2008). As Communications lead for CIT, developed CIT's communications strategy, maintained and expanded on social media connections, and generated a reporting mechanism to track communications statistics. Led the redesign and development of CIT’s website (2010-2011).Consulted with faculty on the integration of technology with teaching and research, primarily within the social science disciplines. Managed strategic instructional technology grants and projects. Areas of focus included: visualization, geo-location, Web2.0/social media, collaborative technologies, flexible learning spaces.

Formerly 'Frye Institute'

Created strategic initiatives to increase the effectiveness of hybrid and distance-learning courses. Participated as contributor and consultant to professional organizations and publications. Developed and led technology and pedagogy workshops, seminars and events.Managed the design, development and implementation of engaging, interactive and pedagogically-sound new media materials including websites, institutional portals, and research databases and online/distance learning courses. Developed project management processes to support production. Managed staff of both FTE and student developers, designers and programmers.

Led the collaborative effort to establish UTEP’s first enterprise learning management system (WebCT). Managed teams developing multimedia, video and visualization projects. Assisted with project planning and consulting support for NASA grant supporting science and technology projects.
