What is UX Engineering? UX Engineering (UXE) is a technical role that is intrinsically involved in the user's experience.As the Head of UXE, I oversee every part of a product that a user may experience. This process looks like the following with new BCW Technology programs:- the design and development of a static landing page that serves as a foundation for the look and feel of the new program;- a technical scaffolding of the frontend repository with all of the foundational packages needed for a good user AND developer experience;- an initial design and development pass on the frontend codebase by creating basic routes, general layouts, core reusable components, and a few core pages to achieve the proof-of-concept stage;- a secondary design and development pass on the codebase by adding routes, components, and additional pages based on my competitor analysis of similar products, as well as client and stakeholder requirements;- an onboarding of junior and intermediate contributors who will take over the day-to-day product development;- a management approach to frontend development, by working with the Head of Product to roadmap and convert new features and user stories into wireframes, descriptions and/or pseudo-code to task out to the frontend team;- reviewing PRs and mentoring contributors to improve their design intuition, code quality, and process.In general, I also:- streamline development processes;- strive to improve the usability of financial products in this extremely high-growth sector;- mentor highly-motivated and capable junior engineers; and speaking of which...- ...grow the engineering team @ BCW Technologies! - Provided vision and direction for the KidsLoop ecosystem products and took on-the-ground ownership for projects with a focus on frontend development and UI/UX- Drove creative and holistic thinking at scale across diverse product releases, platforms, and devices- Defined, maintained, matured, and evolved the KidsLoop UX framework and development guidelines as the ecosystem and organization scales- Advocated the role of UX design across the organization and make user experience design recommendations based on usability & accessibility standards and industry best-practices- Worked with prototyping tools and participate in UX research and usability studies- Collaborated with Product Managers, Engineers, and Designers to execute visually strong and intuitive products- Grew the design and front-end engineering team from 2 members to 5 members.

- Led design, development, and release of Hycon Pocket - a cross-platform mobile app built on React, Cordova, Webpack, and Material-UI components with more than 350 users on Android and iOS.- Led architecture, development, documentation, and refactoring of Hycon Core RESTful API. Primarily used by all crypto-exchanges and Hycon services .- Created, from scratch, non-technical projects like the Bug Bounty Program and HyconHacks Hackathon. HyconHacks brought 200+ participants from around the world to develop projects with Hycon.- Created documentation and web pages to attract & support companies and users on the Hycon platform. Founder and store owner of the storefront called The Cabinet Commons (https://shawnjzlee.me/cabinetcommons.html)The Cabinet Commons was launched e-commerce site aimed to simplify the purchasing experience for the retail sector in kitchen and bathroom cabinets. Uses Python, Selenium, Scrapy, and the Shopify API to regularly crawl, compile, and adjust prices from competing vendors to beat prices and acquire more customers.
