Bringing basic 1st Aid knowledge, skillset and practical understanding to widows and orphans involved with Sister Connection in Burundi Africa. What can be done if someone is ill, or injured - without any Emergency Services - and often an hour or more on foot to the nearest clinic or hospital? That is often the situation for widows and orphans involved with Sister Connection in Burundi Africa. And that is what I have had the unique privilege in being a part of in 2022. I wrote a tailored 1st aid curricula to begin to educate and offer practical solutions to emergency care when often the only option for most of the widows and orphans involved with Sister Connection is to walk great distances to a clinic or hospital. The pilot program was done in April of 2022 with 16 students (8 men and 8 women). Their ages ranged from 18-50s. From those first students, a small number have been invited back to attend additional training with the hope of having them become competent with the material to begin to share the information with other widows and orphans in their own communities. These are extraordinary individuals who have endured much and still seek to be grateful for all they have. They also did a wonderful job of growing in knowledge and skillset in an area they had never known before.
