Shawn Rounds is the State Archivist and Director of Digital Preservation & State Archives at the Minnesota Historical Society, holding the endowed Plank Chair in Library, Archives and Collections. In her role as State Archivist, she oversees the functions of the Minnesota State Archives relating to the identification, collection, preservation, and access of state's historical government records. In her Director role, she oversees the digitization of the institution's physical collections, including newspaper and archival holdings; administration of the Minnesota Digital Newspaper Hub and Minnesota People Records Search systems; the management and preservation of digital collections; and the MNHS' records management program.As well as serving as project director for the Minnesota's National Digital Newspaper Program NEH grant, she has been project manager on various federal grant projects dealing with topics such as XML, metadata, and preserving legislative content. Her work within Minnesota state government has included co-chairing the state’s Information Architecture team, leading a committee which developed a recordkeeping metadata standard, and being a member of the Minnesota Public Data Advisory Group. Among other activities, Shawn currently serves on the Minnesota Electronic Real Estate Recording Commission, the Preservation Committee of the Minnesota Supreme Court Historical Society, the Governance Committee of the Minnesota Digital Library, and is the Deputy Coordinator for Minnesota's State Historical Records Advisory Board (SHRAB). Nationally, Shawn has served on the Board of Directors for the Council of State Archivists (CoSA) and on related committees, including currently chairing the CoSA Education Committee. She has also served on the Board of the National Association of Government Archivists and Records Administrators (NAGARA) from 2013-2017, and was the newsletter editor for NAGARA's Committee on Electronic Records and Information Systems (CERIS).In her local community, Shawn volunteers as a member of the Board of Directors of the non-profit Ramsey County Library Friends.
