Project Manager
When I worked for the Nickerson Corporation, I was challenged in ways that changed me forever. Dealing with multi-phase construction on large projects, while working with clients and organizing materials and labor, truly taught me the definition of "multitasking". Working with a great staff and fantastic management helped to alleviate some of the pressure, but overall it was up to me to manage the demands of these projects. It leathered up my skin and taught me how to really prioritize tasks so that these demands were met and projects finished on time. Some of the duties and responsibilities encompassed with this position were:Managed projects from inception to completion Attended weekly job meetings to coordinate all facets of each project Responsible for timely submittal of all necessary information to our various manufacturers Ensured that project milestones were met on each phase of all projects Worked with customers, General Contractors, Construction Managers and Architects to effectively coordinate projects, answer questions or to address issues as they arose Provided prospects and clients with cost and service data; Negotiated terms and pricing agreements Reviewed subcontractor rates and performance; Selected subcontractor vendors accordingly Conducted on-site inspections of subcontractor work; Partnered with clients to anticipate future service needs Utilized company software to track orders, confirm ship dates and to coordinate deliveries of materials
Account Executive
Capital Contractors, inc. was my first foray into sales outside of the retail environment. I spent a lot of time knocking on doors and making cold calls trying to open new accounts. Let's put it this way, people are not very friendly to door to door salesmen! To take a line from the movie Boiler Room "Sales is a contact sport". To get that one "yes", I needed to get that first 99 "no's" out of the way. I had to learn how to adapt my approach to fit the potential client. I spent a lot of time thinking about new ways to get my message through to potential customers. In the end the most important lesson I learned is that having the best price doesn't always win the job. You have to account for the human element. People not only have to like you, but they have to trust you and trust can only be earned. Some of my responsibilities when I held this position were:Dedicated to developing new and existing accountsProvide prospects and clients with cost and service data; Negotiate terms and pricing agreements Author introductory and promotional emails and mailing materials; Revise and customize Proposal templates Participate in Management and Networking meetings (LIBA, HIA, Multiple Chamber of Commerce member) Monitor and analyze account sales and service activities; Conceive procedures for improvement Review subcontractor rates and performance weekly; Select subcontractor vendors accordingly Conduct on-site inspections of subcontractor work; Partner with clients to anticipate future service needs Submit internal recommendations for service and software solutions; Research competitor operations Collaborate with Sales Manager to exceed marketplace competitors for National Account bids Utilize Company customized software, MS Works (Word, Advanced Excel, PowerPoint) and ACT
Store Operations
Republic Lighting, Inc. is where my love of lighting first blossomed. What I loved most was to help customers find the right fixture and style to suit their vision of their perfect home. A person can find the perfect paint for their walls, the perfect furniture and accent pieces, but it all means nothing without the right lighting. The type of fixture you choose can either make or break the overall appearance of a room. Selling many different types of manufacturers products, I learned that all products are not created equally. Just because something costs more doesn't mean it's necessarily better quality. It was here though that I first learned how to make a deal. Sometimes the difference between making the sale and losing the sale came down to about $3 in light bulbs. It is always better to make some money than no money. Some of my accomplishments were: Assumed Supervisory responsibility of Shipping & Delivery, Inventory, Product Placement and Staff Training Accepted, confirmed and signed for shipments; Prepared and processed Damage Reports Coordinated deliveries; Troubleshot delivery problems; Negotiated price discounts with disgruntled clients Liaised with DHL, UPS, FedEx, local and national trucking companies to resolve billing and service issues Monitored floor and stockroom inventory; Conceived and implemented organizational upgrades Ordered inventory; Utilized customized database software; Trained store personnel on stockroom procedures Designed product displays; Determined product placement in store Authored product and customer service training guides for new employees Reviewed employee performance and schedule concerns with owner; Made recommendations for improvement Assisted Bookkeeper with invoice and time-sheet/payroll discrepancies; Proofread advertisement submissions
Marketing Assistant
I worked at Mall Communications, Inc. while I was in High School. They specialized in advertising campaigns for regional malls. Being a High School kid at the time, the majority of my time was spent hanging out at the mall. This job taught me the importance of foot traffic and how to capture the attention with so much competing eye candy. Knowing the layout of a given mall as well as the natural sight lines of the patrons walking through was a big part of the game. Hanging out at the mall became less about killing time with friends, and more about learning how to reach a target market with a well placed ad. The duties I was responsible for and skills that were taught to me were:*Paid InternshipAssisted on numerous marketing campaigns for New York mallsDrafted, edited and proofread copyOrganized and distributed marketing materials Created DatabasesAssisted on presentations for clients
